Location: Sparks, Cherry County, Nebraska
Water Source: Nature Creek
Drop: 10 Feet
Directions: As you enter Sparks on Rt. 12 east from Valentine, turn right (south) on the gravel road to Brewer's Bridge via County Road. At 4.8 miles you will pass Sparps Camp; continue to the Y at about 13 miles from Sparks; take the right road to continue ahead for another .6 miles to the cattle guard and park in front of the guard. Walk along the fence across the field to the river, and the falls can be seen off to the left across the Niobrara River.
Notes: I visited Nature Falls on March 21, 2003. I wouldn't recommend going to this falls. The parking area described in the book Waterfalls USA is on the other side of the cattle guard. However, there was a sign posted "No Hunting or Trespassing" at the cattle guard, so I chose to stay out of the fenced in property (it looked like a new sign). Therefore, I walked on the outside of the fence, and when I reached the river, I could barely see the falls. I would have needed to go about 20-30 feet to the left (into the posted area) to get a decent view of the falls.
The Waterfalls USA book recommended a 4WD vehicle for this road. I hit it at a good time, because I had no problems with my car on the road. However, later in the spring if it has been very wet, it might cause problems, so proceed with caution.
