Location: 10 miles southwest of Duluth, Jay Cooke State Park, Carlton County, Minnesota
Water Source: St. Louis River
Drop: Various, with the largest 12 foot
Directions: From Carlton take Rt. 210 east to Jay Cooke State Park. From Duluth take I-35 south to one of the exits that would take you to Rt. 210 or you can go all the way out to exit 235 and take Rt. 210 east through Carlton to the park. Swinging Bridge Falls is located behind the headquarters building on the St. Louis River.
Notes: I visited Swinging Bridge Falls on October 2, 2006. There is an entry fee to the park. There are some falls visible as you enter the park, but continue on to the park headquarters. The walk across the swinging bridge is pleasant. There are falls all along the river; some can be seen before youc ross the bridge, from the bridge, and from the trail and rocks beyond the bridge. The photos above show various views of some of the falls and also the swinging bridge.
